The Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Feb. 6-12

With only a month left until state championships in most sports, high school teams are stepping up their games in hopes to improve–or hold onto their leads–as they head toward playoffs.

Girls Basketball

For two Dearborn basketball teams, that means working extra hard to ensure that perfect or near-perfect seasons remain the norm throughout February.

's girls basketball team has continued their winning streak–most recently, with a win over on Friday. Their record stands at 15-1.

Meanwhile, 's girls basketball team is undefeated in the Catholic League Central Division, with a record of 8-0.

Edsel is ranked in the top 10 in the state in Class A, according to a Detroit Free Press poll. Also, DC's team is in the top 10 in Class B, and the Falcons are considered a threat to win the state title.

Wrestling Post Season Begins

Varsity wrestling teams from all four Dearborn high schools will head to team and individual district meets this week.

In team districts, Edsel Ford takes on Southgate Anderson on Thursday in a meet that also includes Lincoln Park vs. Wyandotte Roosevelt. Both matches happen at 5 p.m. in Southgate.

Dearborn takes on Garden City at home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. will play against Livonia Franklin at the same meet.

Divine Child's wrestling team will head to Dearborn Heights Crestwood on Wednesday in a meet that includes Annapolis, Crestwood, Romulus and DC.

Edsel individual districts will take place at Temporance Bedford, while DHS and Fordson will compete in Canton, and DC will compete in Milan. All individual meets will take place on Saturday.

Winners will move on to regionals on Feb. 15 for teams; Feb. 18 for individuals.
