Dearborn Track Athletes Move on to State Finals

Baseball and softball teams begin state title quest at district tournaments.

We’re going to keep this week’s edition of the Pick of the Week short and to the point.

Why?

Well, it’s because the forecast, for once this season, looks favorable and the state playoffs are about to get under way in both baseball and softball—the district round is slated to start with pre-district competition Tuesday, while the rest of the round wraps up on Friday (in a few cases) and on Saturday (in most cases).

We don’t want to jinx the weather so let’s not spend a lot of time rambling about how teams may come in with fewer games than normal under their belts, thus tipping the scale to more experienced baseball and softball teams this season more than usual, and get right to the point.

First of all, let's take a second to congratulate Lindsey Brewis, Mallory Myler, Ceara O’Leary, Ashley O’Neill, Paige Patterson and Caroline Strassers from for making the Division 2 state finals June 4 in Grand Rapids.

Kudos also goes out to DC’s Christian Martain, Griffin Miller and Nicholas Sotor for qualifying for the D2 state finals.

Meanwhile, in Division 1, Kareem Hashem earned a trip to the finals, as did Ali Hammoud, Keshawn Walker and .

DHS girls standout Sara Srassen and pole vaulter Lilly Melekian will also make the trip to the Division 1 finals Saturday.

Congrats to all the boys and girls who are slated to represent the area at the state finals.

The community is proud and is rooting for each of you.

Now, let’s take a quick look at the important week ahead for the baseball and softball squads.

The baseball teams from Dearborn High, Edsel Ford and Fordson will battle for a district crown at Allen Park, while DC begins its state-title charge at Livonia-Ladywood.

The softball squads mirror the baseball teams in location, meaning DHS, Edsel and Fordson square off at Allen Park, while DC travels to Livonia-Ladywood.
