Eighty-seven teams, 10 soccer fields and 20 years.
Yep, that's the Dearborn Invitational.
This weekend marks the 20-year anniversary of the Dearborn Invitational soccer tournament where 87 youth teams converged on the city for some end-of-the-summer competition.
"It's all about the kids," Dearborn Soccer Club President Robert Cook said. "We just want them to get out and have a good time. The weather has been just great (this year); we couldn't ask for any better."
Cook and his team of volunteers from the Dearborn Soccer Club appreciate the cooperation and assistance from the city of Dearborn in helping to host the soccer weekend.
"We've worked closely with the city and they have helped us a lot," said Cook. "They are 100-percent supportive of our efforts. I'd like to thank them and our Dearborn Soccer Club family for the help."
The tournament participants are boys and girls, ages 8-19, and include teams from Michigan and Canada. Matches take place at , , and the fields.
The tournament ends Sunday with the championship matches played in the afternoon. Watch Dearborn Patch for an update on the tournament.
