Dearborn High Outlasts Chippewa Valley in Football Opener

Dearborn rallies from 16-point deficit to defeat Chippewa Valley 29-28 in overtime.

Better late than never.

Never was that more true than Thursday night for the football team.

The Pioneers rallied from a 16-point deficit and took their first and only lead on Ali Kassab’s 10-yard run on the first play of overtime to defeat Chippewa Valley 29-28 in the season-opener for both teams at Dearborn.

Kassab rushed for two touchdowns, and senior quarterback Ollie Ajami connected with Ryan Hansen on a 32-yard touchdown pass and subsequent two-point conversion to tie the game at 22-22 with five minutes and 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Robert Ferrara also rushed for a touchdown for Dearborn, which trailed 16-6 at halftime and 22-6 with 11:44 left in the third quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Brendan Rohlfs, senior Paul Miller and Devante Thomas scored touchdowns for Chippewa Valley.
