DC catcher Eric Haase, who graduated last month from the Dearborn Catholic school, has been selected by the Cleveland Indians in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball draft, according to breaking reports via the Twitter and blog sphere on Tuesday afternoon.
The 18-year-old Haase has been a key player for his team all season. He to attend Ohio State University in the fall, but now has the option to go straight to professional baseball.
No decision by Haase has been announced as of Tuesday.
Haase was named the No. 2 senior in the state of Michigan according to Michiganbaseballprospects.org.
He was the first high school player from Michigan selected in the draft, according to MLB.com.
Indians Prospect Insider columnist Jeff Ellis said of Haase, "Haase is viewed as the best talent in all of Michigan this year," adding that the DC catcher has shown versatility in the field through a tough baseball season, thanks to the unpredictable spring weather.
