Whiz Kids: Student Serves as “Principal for a Day”

Accomplishment: How many times during the day would someone in a work or school situation say, “If I were in charge, this is what I would do?”

Well, Noah Mualem, a lucky second-grader at Sacred Heart Catholic School, had a chance to do just that recently when he was named “Principal for a Day” after out-performing his classmates in a magazine sales fundraiser.

Mualem, who carried out his duties on the guidance of Principal Melissa Lambrecht, said he learned a lot about how the school operates, and the important role a principal plays in making school a fun and education place for students.

“It was a lot of fun,” he said. “I was able to make decisions and do a lot at the assembly we had that day.”

To win the honor, Mualem sold 34 magazine subscriptions. The money generated will fund many activities at the school, he said.

Key to awesomeness: Mualem worked through an entire agenda of activities on his day as principal.

One of the first tasks he performed was reading a story to the indergartners at the school, which he said was something he enjoyed.

“I like reading a lot, and I think the kindergarteners liked the story,” he said.

Additionally, the school also had a pep rally on the day Mualem was principal, which he helped roll out for the other students.

Lambrecht, who worked with Mualem all day, said she was impressed with his conduct.

“He did a great job,” she said. “He learned a lot about leadership.”

When he’s not seeking leadership roles, Mualem enjoys learning at school; his favorite classes include math and religion.

Outside of the classroom, Mualem said he enjoys spending time with his family and watching and playing sports. He particularly enjoys basketball.

Mualem is the son of Michael and Lynda Mualem of Dearborn.
