Accomplishment: Kahil, who is a fourth-grader in teacher Deborah Hinson’s class, has made himself an indispensable resource in her classroom by translating for Arabic-speaking students who are learning English.

“If they can’t understand what (the teacher) is saying, I’ll tell them,” said Kahil.

Apparently, the translation services go in the other direction as well, said Hinson.

“He’s a very compassionate student and puts his needs last,” she said. “Aiman does help me–(as) I do not speak Arabic–when I’m working with a student.”

Key to awesomeness: Aiman said that he’s able to finish his assignments quickly, and that he doesn’t hesitate to help out other classmates once he’s finished his work.

“I like helping the students,” he said.

Aiman said his favorite subject in school is math. He said math will definitely play a role in his future career.

“I want to be a doctor, or a policeman, or a mechanic,” he said. “I will do math–it’s in my blood.”

Aiman is the son of Fadia and Bader Kahil of Dearborn. When he’s not at school, Aiman enjoys video games, soccer and spending time with his cousin.

Do you know a Dearborn student who exceeds expectations both in and out of the classroom? Do you know a student that seems to have a special grasp of a subject, activity or hobby? Or maybe your young person is writing a play, or volunteering. Everyone deserves a little attention, and we want to tell these stories.
