Redford Administrator Named New Principal at Salina Elementary in Dearborn

Susan Stanley of Grosse Pointe will officially begin at Dearborn Public Schools on July 1.

Students at Salina Elementary School in Dearborn will be greeted with a new face this fall.

Susan Stanley of Grosse Pointe has been named the school's principal for the 2013-2014 academic year, and will replace Nadia Youmans. Stanley currently serves as principal at Beech Elementary in the Redford Union School District.

"My father was a Ford man, so I am excited to be coming back to Dearborn," Stanley said. "The Dearborn community is so supportive of education, and the parental support for students is extraordinary."

Stanley is bringing more than 20 years of experience in elementary education to Dearborn Public Schools. In addition to serving as principal at Beech Elementary for the past 10 years, she has also served as a first grade recovery teacher for 13 years.

"I'm an early childhood education advocate. My passion is getting kids on the right path to reading. I'm looking forward to focusing my energy on Dearborn's youngest learners," she said.

The Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education approved a contract with Stanley at its meeting on May 28. She will officially take over responsibilities at Salina Elementary beginning July 1.

"It's an exciting time for educators in our country," Stanley said. "I'm looking forward to working with the staff at Salina to be part of Dearborn's learning community and to help our students grow to their fullest potential."

Salina Elementary is the second school in the district to announce a change in leadership.

Geer Park Elementary School recently announced that teacher Lamis Srour will take over for Principal Andrea Awada, who is retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
