In Brief: Dearborn Summer School Registration Open

Students who need to make up credits or jump ahead for credits will have plenty of opportunities to do so this summer in Dearborn.

Registration is now open for Dearborn Public Schools summer school for elementary, middle and high school students.

For elementary school students, a five-week course of study designed to help struggling students will be offered, said Norma Jean Sass, district assistant superintendent of elementary instruction.

“It’s an accelerated math and reading curriculum,” she said.

The elementary summer school program runs four days Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program costs $235.

Middle school students will be able to take part in a program that consists of a math and reading block and one hour of additional teacher assistance. The middle school program runs Monday through Friday June 27-July 29 and the cost is $275.

This year, the summer program will take place at the and facilities.

High schoolers have several summer options and are allowed to take two classes for full credit. The classes include biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, geometry, art appreciation, health, computer applications, physical education, language arts, psychology, sociology, economics, history and government.

Blocks run from 7:30-9:55 a.m. and from 10:05 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for high schoolers. High school courses are Monday through Friday, cost $275 and take place at .

High school courses run from June 27 to August 4.

In some cases, scholarships and Title I funds are available for parents. Payment can also be made by cash, money order, Visa and Master Card. Classes can be cancelled up until June 27 but a $50 service fee will be charged.

Registration forms will be sent out next week. Parents should register students at their home school.
