Fordson High School Students, Teachers Face-Off on Basketball Court for Charity

Fordson High School is raising money for the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation with a basketball tournament on March 27.

The public is invited to come cheer on the students—or the faculty and staff at Fordson High School in Dearborn—at the annual student/faculty charity basketball game on March 27.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in the gym. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. All proceeds from the game benefit the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation.

"This is our third year putting together this fundraiser," teacher Amanda Durfee said. "We were lucky to raise $2,500 the previous two years and we presented the hospital with a check for $5,000 in December."

Durfee said the teams hope to raise $3,000 through ticket sales and concessions during Wednesday's game.

"Everyone is looking forward to the game," she said. "The kids like to watch the staff play. I think they get a kick out of watching us sweat.

"Last year the staff won by a buzzer beater, so we'll see who's lucky this year."

Durfee said the real winners of Wednesday's game, however, is the Children's Hospital of Michigan.

"Several of our students have siblings at the Children's Hospital, so they are eager to support that organization through charitable events like the basketball game," Durfee said.
