In the late 60’s and early 70’s Jim and his wife Theresa attended
many of the adult education classes at the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor. They focused on wild edible foods and mushrooms.
Professional herbalist, Alma Hutchens and the N.G. Tretchikoff
authors of, “Indian Herbalogy of North America” personally
Together, Jim and Theresa attended summer seminars at Tufts
University in Cambridge, Massachusetts’s studying food combinations
and proper diet.
Jim volunteered his time and knowledge to FAST TRACT
reconstruction of burned out homes in the inter-city for Mother
Waddles and Focus Hope
He was invited to speak at the 2002 National Day of Prayer with
Frank Turner, former news anchor of Channel 7 in Detroit.
With the release of their recent book, Hey Dave! 2009 brought many
Jim and Theresa appeared on Public Television Channel 18 WDWO,
They were invited to speak at the Detroit Athletic Club before the
Detroit Rotary and The Masters Gardeners Club of Shelby.
Henry Ford Community College asked them to set up a booth at the
college campus to inform students of wild edible foods and survival in
an urban area. In January of 2010, Jim was a guest speaker at
Schoolcraft College. Several times throughout the year they conduct
field walks instructing others on identifying wild edible foods throughout the Metro-Detroit area.
