Several factors determine the district calendar including state mandates, a county-wide common calendar, community needs, professional development obligations, and days decided through negotiations between the Board of Education and the Dearborn Federation of Teachers.

The 2013-14 district calendar includes nine late start dates (four less than this year) that will be used for professional development and school improvement.

Feedback from staff has determined that the late start dates have been helpful in providing teachers and principals time to meet, collaborate with colleagues, work on school improvement goals, and improve student instruction.

The first of the nine late start dates will occur on Sept. 11, and will continue on various Wednesdays throughout the year.

Also included on the calendar are the dates of MEAP testing and MME/ACT testing. These are important tests that students are required to take. Parents should make sure that vacations, appointments, or other events are not scheduled on testing dates.

The 2013-14 calendar will be posted on the district’s website and can be accessed by visiting http://dearbornschools.org/district/about-us/district-calendar.

Visitors to the site can download a PDF version of the calendar or view an online calendar.

Parents should check with their child’s school for important events and activities taking place unique to their school and not appearing on the district calendar.
