Dearborn Kindergarten Round-Ups Coming Soon

Here's a look at the schedule for Dearborn Public Schools' kindergarten classrooms.

The start of the 2013-14 school year may be several months away, but now is the time for parents to get their child ready to start kindergarten in the Dearborn Public Schools. Elementary schools around the district will be holding Kindergarten Round-Up in March, April and May.

The annual Kindergarten Round-Up will provide parents with the opportunity to find out about their neighborhood school and enroll their child for the fall semester.

Under a new state law, the kindergarten entry date will gradually change over the next three years from Dec. 1 to Sept. 1. For 2013, children must be five years of age by Nov. 1 in order to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

However, parents with a child whose birthday falls after the new Nov. 1 deadline have until June 1, 2013 to complete a simple waiver that will allow them to enroll their child in kindergarten even if their birthday falls after the Nov. 1 date.

The waiver is available at:

All parents who have a child who will be attending kindergarten in 2013 should plan on attending a Kindergarten Round-Up at their neighborhood elementary school. Advance notice is recommended, but not required.

Dates and times of kindergarten round-ups may be changed due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
