Dearborn Christian School to Close This Year

The private school will still operate a preschool program.

A 56-year legacy will come to an end this year when Dearborn Christian School closes its doors at the end of the school year.

Principal Randy Hazenberg announced the news Wednesday. Details on the decision to close the school were not immediately available.

Dearborn Christian School was founded in 1957, tucked into a neighborhood near Outer Drive. The private school—hosted by the Dearborn Christian Fellowship Church—offered preschool through eighth-grade classes.

The school teaches around 75 students.

According to Hazenberg, the school will host several events to honor its history, including a celebration on May 10, as well as their annual Hot Dog Roast on June 7. Details about those events are forthcoming.

Additionally, Hazenberg said, Dearborn Christian's preschool will remain open. An open house will be held April 10 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. for that program.

"(The preschool) has grown every year and is a benefit to the surrounding community," Hazenberg said.

The school will be selling off many of its supplies, textbooks and computers. Those interested in purchasing anything can call 313-563-1240 for more information.
