's youngest students got an after-school surprise on Wednesday afternoon when the school unveiled its newly improved playground facilities.
The playground now includes a new swing set and a pre-school jungle gym, as well as a woodchipped area and rearranged equipment.
The new facilities, said school board member and chair of the playground committee Sally Ejakov, will give the preschool and kindergarten class somewhere new to play.
"We didn't have anywhere for the youngest kids to play before this," she said to a group of students, parents and teachers gathered Wednesday to witness the ribbon cutting. "All of you are responsible and we thank all of the students."
Ejakov, whose sons are in the first and third grades at the school, explained that the process was a long time coming. The process included several fundraising initiatives–including a walk-a-thon, private donations, and an effort by the eighth grade class.
“One might think it is a small thing, but having quality, safe and fun playground equipment for our preschool is another essential piece that allows us to fulfill our mission to be a blessing to the community,” Dearborn Christian Principal Randy Hazenberg said. “As principal, it has been great to see how people are willing and able to work together to complete a project.”
