Several matters were discussed at the Monday evening Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education meeting.
The district’s school improvement plan, which is required per state law, will be reconceived this year, said Kathleen McBroom, the district’s coordinator of compensatory education and school improvement.
Instead of conducting one classroom visit and making a year-end display for the school board and the public, administrators will make two visits to as many classrooms as they can, provide feedback to teachers and expand existing online reports to include changes in the classroom.
McBroom said the new program is aimed at providing consistency in suggestions to educators, and expanding access about classroom programs and improvement to the public.
Several other appointments and contract awards were approved by the board Monday night, including the appointment of three new principals.
Daniel Hartley was appointed to the position of principal at to replace Glenn Maleyko, who was promoted to the role of district personnel manager in July. Hartley was the assistant principal of .
The board also appointed Kristen Waddell, the assistant principal of , to the position of principal at to replace Jill Chochol, who was promoted to assistant superintendent of elementary education in July.
Majed Fadlallah, the principal of , will move to to replace Troy Patterson, who was appointed to help the district’s information technology needs in July. The board then voted to replace Fadlallah with Jamel Lawera at Salina. Lawera was the assistant principal at the same facility.
The board appointed Trustee Robert McLaughlin to serve as its representative on the Michigan Association of School Boards, of which the board is a member. The appointment was unanimous. McLaughlin’s term will expire in 2014.
Additionally, the board voted unanimously to award a contract to Interstate Hostess Bread for $33,198 to provide rolls and bread to the schools for the 2011-12 school year. Interstate was the lowest bidder.
