Dearborn Music will likely be in its new space by the time the holiday shopping season rolls around.
The west Dearborn store—which sells new and used records, CDs and DVDs, as well as music memorabilia—has been in its current location on the corner of Monroe and Michigan Avenue since 1959.
Rick LeAnnais announced the store's impending move in June to a new location three blocks west on Newman Street. However, complications with the building and city approval delayed the move, which was originally expected to take place by the beginning of fall.
Now, LeAnnais said, they're just waiting on the city to approve their certificate of occupancy.
"We're hoping to get in during the next two weeks," he said. "It will be an easy transition from one store to the other."
That's because LeAnnais has had plenty of time to plan out where he wants everything in the store to go, from music racks to band merchandise. The layout, he added, will be more open.
The target date is to get moved into the new location by Nov. 11, he said, to allow for time to prepare before the busy holiday shopping season.
