Wayne State Accounting Student Running for Dearborn Mayor

Dearborn Patch will profile candidates running for office in the Aug. 6 city primary.

Editor's note: For the past several weeks, Dearborn Patch has profiled candidates seeking election to the city council and city clerk's office. We will conclude our election series with profiles of candidates seeking election as mayor of Dearborn. There are five candidates on the Aug. 6 primary ballot.

Today we feature candidate Ziad "Zack" Abdulmalik

Candidate: Ziad Abdulmalik
Office sought: Mayor of Dearborn
Occupation: Auto repair shop manager

Education: I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Wayne State University.

Family: No response.

Previous elected office: None

What are two key issues in Dearborn?

1) Citizen input in the decision-making process.

2) Attracting businesses to Dearborn.

How will you address these issues?

1) Not everyone has the time to come in and have a say at the city council meetings. I have attended them and usually all the major decisions that affect all of us are left to the end or tabled. One idea is adding a forum to the city website. I guarantee that with a forum debate will arise and give a better idea to our city council on what we want and stand on the issues.

2) To bring businesses to Dearborn, we need to provide well managed and maintained infrastructure through proactive and reactive services, excellent stewardship of public assets and a variety of cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities to enhance the quality of life.

We should create and maintain effective partnerships to promote employment opportunities and individual and business success.
