UM-Dearborn Grad Wins Democratic Primary for State House Seat
Dearborn Heights resident David Knezek will face Republican Kathleen Kopczyk in the Nov. 6 primary for the 11th District seat.
A graduate of the could be headed to Lansing as a state representative next January.
Dearborn Heights resident and Iraq War veteran David Knezek on Tuesday won the Democratic primary in Michigan’s 11th House District.
Knezek received 50 percent of the vote in a four-way primary, outpacing nearest opponent Cody Bailey by 29 percent.

UM-Dearborn student newspaper the Michigan Journal reported that Knezek on Tuesday spoke of his beginnings in politics–at the Dearborn university last year.
“We started this whole process Dec. 5, 2011, and I was still Student Government president over at UM-Dearborn, just a college kid trying to finish up a degree,” Knezek said to guests at his election night party. “Eight months later, here we are."

The new District 11 contains all of Garden City and Inkster, along with parts of Dearborn Heights, Westland and Livonia. According to Knezek's campaign, he led the vote in all cities except Inkster.
“Our team set high goals from the beginning,” Knezek said in a statement. “To be able to garner such strong support in a district comprised of five different cities truly speaks to our work ethic and message. My team and I took a few hours to celebrate last night, but rest assured we’re back at work today. We’re not taking anything for granted.”
