14 Dearborn Precincts Consolidated Due to Expected Low Voter Turnout
The decision made by the City Clerk's office is expected to save several thousand in labor and supply costs.
Dearborn City Clerk Kathy Buda announced Monday night at the regular City Council meeting that a decision has been made to consolidate several precincts for the Nov. 8 elections due to expected low turnout in targeted areas.
The affected areas are Precincts 1 and 2 (); 4 and 5 (); 8 and 9 (); 11 and 12 (); 15 and 16 (); 20 and 21 (); and 22 and 23 ().
Voters in those precincts will not be required to go to different locations, but will notice changes in the set-up of the voting locations.

"People should just go to where they normally vote," Buda said.
She added that the decision is expected to save around $4,000 in supplies and payroll, because less materials and less people will be needed to run the affected voting locations.

All listed precincts are in the south and east ends of Dearborn, and were consolidated based on expected low turnout, which Buda said was calculated based on low voter turnout at the last election during which only school board elections and city proposals were being voted upon.
Numbers from Nov. 6, 2007–the last time such an election took place–show that as few as 150 to 300 people voted in each of the consolidated areas. Buda said that each voting location is required by law not to exceed 5,000 voters, but that none of those areas are expected to come close to hitting that limit.
