Redistricting Plan Could Give New Look to Wayne County

A plan by Republicans would reduce the number of state senators in Wayne County from eight to seven.

Wayne County could lose representation in the state senate if a Republican redistricting plan is adopted, according to reports from The Detroit News and The Associated Press.

Wayne County would fall from eight to seven senators in the state legislature, according to the proposal.

Wyandotte and Trenton would be included in the 3rd District that includes downtown Detroit, River Rouge, Ecorse, Riverview, Grosse Ile and Brownstown Township.

In addition, Dearborn would be put in the 4th District with Melvindale and part of Detroit.

The Grosse Pointe communities would be in the new 1st District with Harper Woods, Hamtramck, Redford Township and part of northern Detroit.

Any redistricting changes must be approved by Nov. 1.
