Michigan Residents Have Until Sept. 30 to Apply for Help Paying Heating Bills
The home heading credit helps helps low-income families pay their heating bills through the winter.
Low-income Michigan residents looking for some help getting through the winter have until Sept. 30 to apply for a Home Heating Credit.
State Rep. Mark Ouimet, who chaimpioned the cause, explained that it's necessary to help homeowners whose income is tight.
"Home heating bills tend to fluctuate every year and can especially affect people living on fixed incomes, such as senior citizens,” said Ouimet, R-Scio Township. "I encourage people who think they may qualify to learn more about the program and get their applications in as soon as possible."

Eligible customers must have their homestead in Michigan, must own or rent the home in which they live, and for the standard allowance, their income must fall within certain limits. Special exemptions are available for residents who are deaf, blind, a person with a disability, or age 65 or older.
The Home Heating Credit is funded by the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program grant. Home heating credits are processed by the Michigan Department of Treasury.
