This year's school board elections will include two incumbents and one challenger, all with the hopes of securing one of two open seats on the board, which serves both Dearborn Public Schools and Henry Ford Community College.

Candidates Aimee Blackburn and Mary Lane are current school board trustees, with Lane currently serving as president of the board.

Candidate Mary Petlichkoff formerly served on the school board through 2011. In that year's general election, she was ousted from her seat by newcomer Roxanne McDonald, who began serving Jan. 1, 2012.

Blackburn and Lane are both ending their third term on the board. Petlichkoff had served for one term.

This is the first election during which school board members will be running for six-year terms, following a change in state law. The new law requires all Michigan school boards to hold elections only in even-numbered years, and in November.
