Dearborn’s Woronchak Blasts Airport Hiring Process

Controversy continues to swirl around Turika Mullin, a former Wayne County employee who was hired as the CEO for the Wayne County Airport Authority.

Gary Woronchak, the Wayne County Commission Chairman and a Democrat from Dearborn, said he has concerns about a controversial hire by county government.

"It's clear there are some cozy relationships between the airport authority and the county government," Woronchak said in an article in the Detroit News.

Woronchak and others are upset about the hiring of former Wayne County economic development director Turika Mullin as the Wayne County Airport Authority CEO even though Mullin had no previous experience.

The resulting controversy has led to suspensions, firings, a FBI investigation and a lot of heat directed at Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, who was Mullin’s former boss.

Detroit Free Press columnist Rocehlle Riley blasted Ficano, calling for him to stop playing “Whack-A-Mole” and fix the mess.
