Dearborn Looks for Resident Input on Master Plan

A resident opinion survey is open for completion by Aug. 1 and residents are also invited to attend several meetings on Dearborn's master plan.

The future of Dearborn rests in residents' hands–or at least their vision of what they want the future to be.

The city has announced that it is revising its master plan over the next three months and is asking for input from citizens through a community survey, as well as at several upcoming community meetings.

The survey, open to all residents, can be taken online or downloaded here and mailed in. Paper copies can be picked up at in the City Plan office, as well as at the . Responses will be accepted until Aug. 1.

The survey–like the master plan itself–centers around gauging residents' likes and dislikes about the city, as well as the city's makeup.

"The Dearborn Master Plan will be a vision for the future of transportation, land use, the economy, and environmental and cultural stewardship in our city. The plan will be developed through a transparent process led by community stakeholders who are committed to making a difference in Dearborn. ... It is the intent of the Master Plan to help us decide how to manage change and create a great future for ourselves."

The results of the survey and workshops will not be binding but will provide a framework for the city to work from when shaping Dearborn's future.

Community workshops will consist of interactive sessions looking at what Dearborn residents hope to see the city aim for in the future.

The first community workshop, which is open to all residents, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the in Club Room No. 1.

Future meetings will divide residents geographically. They are as follows:

7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27: Fordson East, Fordson West, Springwells and Salina residents. Meeting will be held in Studio A of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3: Princeton-Carlysle and Edison-Snow residents. Meeting will be held at the Dearborn Public Schools Administrative Services building at 18700 Audette.

7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17: Cherry Hill, Fairlane and West Dearborn Center residents. Meeting will be held at the clubhouse.

7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20: A community-wide summation workshop will be held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Club Room No. 1.
