Dearborn Councilman Vows Fiscal Responsibility if Re-Elected

Dearborn Patch will profile candidates running for office in the Aug. 6 city primary.

Editor's note: All nine elective offices in Dearborn are on the primary ballot — mayor, clerk and all seven city council seats. There are five candidates for mayor, three for clerk and 21 for council. Dearborn Patch will run profiles of candidates seeking the office of mayor, city clerk, and city council leading up to the Aug. 6 primary election.

Today we feature candidate David Bazzy.

Candidate: David W. Bazzy

Office sought: Dearborn City Council

Occupation: President (COO) Kenwal Steel Company

Education: Bachelor's degree University of Michigan-Dearborn; Wayne State University (MBA).

Family: Married 29 years to Cherie; three children: James, Nicholas and Jake.

Previous elected office: Current member city council; past chairman Dearborn Charter Commission.

Current public service: No response.

What are two key issues in Dearborn?
1) The budget. This function more than any other is critical since it has a direct impact on the number and level of services residents receive year in and year out.

2) Neighborhoods. Strong neighborhoods create strong cities. It is crucial that sub-standard dwellings as well as homes and businesses that are not kept up to the standards the residents desire are noted and within the law are remedied.

How will you address these issues?

I will continue to oversee the financial direction that the city is moving in, making sure that it is aligned with the strategic long term goals of what is a sustainable framework of which the city can operate given the budget constraints all municipalities face.

I believe my background in operating companies with revenues in excess $900 million dollars as well as my experience in city government has created a balance that best suits me for this role.

I will continue to ask tough fair questions and be the voice of the residents in the city.

In the neighborhoods my role is to work with the citizens to solve those issues that detract from their place of living whether that be a vacant home or sub-standard dwelling. It is the primary responsibility of all of us, but especially those elected officials, to be diligent on neighborhood issues to create and maintain Dearborn as a place people not only want to live, but would also want their parents and children to live.

I will continue to be visible and available to those citizens and work to solve their issues.
