Dearborn residents have a new way to stay cool this summer, with new “spray and play” features added to the city's Jack Dunworth Memorial Pool.

The new attraction is part of a $263,000 upgrade made by the city of Dearborn to the smallest pool of Levagood Park’s Dunworth complex. Wayne County provided $47,000 in funding for the spray features as part of its park millage. That grant also included $90,000 for the renovation of tennis courts at Ford Field Park in Dearborn.

“The city of Dearborn is invested in providing quality recreational features to residents,” said Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. “We’re grateful to have the Wayne County millage funding to help make these upgrades to our city parks."

The spray features include a Shower Tower, Tee Cup, Arch Jet, two water cannons and ground spray jets. The renovations also included an update to the pool’s gutter system, a new pool liner that will extend the life of the pool by 15-20 years, and features to meet mandated compliancy with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Those upgrades, totaling $216,000, were funded by the city of Dearborn.

Similar improvements are being planned for the liners of the park’s 50-meter pool and diving well.
