City Prosecutor Amends Charges Against Dearborn Police Officer

A pretrial hearing for Eric Krawczyk is scheduled for June 13 in the 19th District Court.

A Dearborn police officer will face amended criminal charges associated with an alleged drinking and driving arrest when he goes before Judge Sam Salamey at the 19th District Court next month.

City Prosecutor Nicole Tabin informed Salamey that her office was amending its charges against Officer Eric Krawczyk during a pretrial hearing on May 23.

Krawczyk was previously arraigned on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failing to stop at the scene of an accident on April 25.

Tabin upgraded the charges to operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a high blood alcohol level; operating a motor vehicle without insurance; and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Police reports show Krawczyk was arrested on April 20, after witnesses reported the vehicle he was driving struck at least two other vehicles near Carlysle and Audette streets in Dearborn while he was off duty.

Krawczyk has plead not guilty to all charges.

Salamey approved the amended charges and set a new pretrial hearing for 1 p.m. June 13. He also restricted Krawczyk's travel to the tri-county area.

Krawczyk has a longstanding career with the Dearborn Police Department, and was named "Officer of the Year" in 2003 for his work on the DEA task force in Detroit. In 2008, he received the "Outstanding Service Award" from the Dearborn Exchange Club.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said Krawczyk has been suspended without pay from the department.
