Trial Set for Man Who Broke Into Dearborn Police Car Lot

Michael Pierce Ferriter faces charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and trespassing.

A 50-year-old man who was arrested for breaking into the Dearborn Police Department's vehicle parking lot earlier this month will face charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and trespassing.

Michael Pierce Ferriter waived his preliminary exam at the 19th District Court in Dearborn on Sept. 26 and was bound over to the 3rd Circuit Court for an arraignment hearing at 9 a.m. Oct. 3.

Ferriter is scheduled to appear in front of Judge Mark Somers in the 19th District Court on the trespassing charge on Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. Bond for Ferriter on both charges is $101,000 cash with a GPS tether upon release.

Ferriter was arrested on Sept. 8 after police officers, acting on tips from a passerby, found him underneath a patrol vehicle with a loaded Winchester 30-caliber rifle.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said the motive for Ferriter's actions is unclear.
