Trial Date Set for Suspect in Fairlane Armed Robbery

One of three men believed to be involved in a robbery that took place Monday morning at Fairlane Town Center will appear in Dearborn court March 25.

Detroit resident Charles Edward Rhodes, 20, was arraigned on one count of armed robbery, one count of unarmed robbery, one count of larceny from a person and one count of resisting or obstructing a police officer. Judge Mark Somers has set his bond at $500,000 cash and a preliminary exam has been set for 9 a.m. March 25 at the .

At 9:15 a.m. Monday, a woman called Dearborn police saying that she had just been robbed by three men outside of a restaurant at the mall. The victim followed the men as they fled via the Southfield Freeway.

Dearborn police located the vehicle–a 1992 Buick Roadmaster–and, after a short chase, the driver of the car crashed it near Joy and Southfield. All three suspects then fled on foot.

Rhodes was apprehended after a short chase.

One of the other men, 19-year-old Detroit resident Previn Lamar Dixon, fired several shots at pursuing officers before shooting himself. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The third man has not yet been apprehended.

No officers were hit in the shooting.

Dearborn police are working with the Detroit police homicide division on the incident, and have asked that anyone with information on the whereabouts of the third suspect call Dearborn Police Tip Line at 313-943-3012. The man is described as a black male, approximately 35 years old, wearing a dark-colored jacket.

“This was a very violent crime, where our officers were found to be under great provocation and showed absolute restraint,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement.
