Teen Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Michigan Avenue

Destiny Henderson, 16, a student at Inkster High School, died when her vehicle was struck by a bus in Dearborn.

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a multi-vehicle accident that shut down Michigan Avenue near the Southfield Freeway in Dearborn for three hours on Monday.

Destiny Henderson, a junior at Inkster High School, died when a SMART bus struck her Ford Escort from behind while it was stopped at a traffic light on Michigan Avenue near American Drive around 3:20 p.m.

Dearborn Fire Department Chief Joseph Murray said the force of the impact caused the Escort to hit a pickup truck that was also stopped at the traffic light, pushing the truck several feet down the street.

According to WXYZ Channel 7, two other female passengers in the Escort are in critical condition and another passenger is listed in fair condition at Oakwood Hospital.

The names and ages of the three other females in the car have not been released yet.

A spokesman for the SMART company said the company can not comment on the accident until an investigation is complete.

Inkster High School released the following statement:

Our hearts are heavy laden and sadden by the loss of our beautiful and brilliant student. While, we prayerfully await the recovery of the other two students, staff and grief counselors will be on site to provide time and attention to the emotional needs of our students. We ask that the community keep our students and families in prayer.
