Suspects Arrested for Robbing Henry Ford Community College Student at Gunpoint

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

On Aug. 16 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Dearborn police officers responded to Henry Ford Community College in response to a report of an armed robbery.

A 36-year-old female told officers that she was on her cell phone near the outer perimeter of the parking lot when she was approached by a silver Dodge Caravan. A black male armed with a handgun exited the passenger side of the vehicle and allegedly robbed the victim of her purse and cell phone, police said.

The suspect re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene. Dearborn and Detroit officers pursued the vehicle to the 8600 block of Lauder Street in the city of Detroit.

Two men exited the vehicle, one carrying a handgun, and both fled on foot. The suspect with the handgun began to threaten officers, and both suspects were subsequently apprehended.

Both men are being investigated for similar incidents that occurred earlier in the day in the city of Detroit.

Douglas Eugene Sampson, 27, of Detroit, was arraigned Monday in the 19th District Court on charges of armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, fleeing, receiving and concealing stolen property, and felony firearm.

Bond for Sampson was set at $1 million, and a GPS tether if bond is posted.

Ralph Brantley, 25, of Detroit, was arraigned on charges of armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder (two counts), felonious assault (two counts), assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer (two counts) and felony firearm.

Bond for Brantley was set at $1 million, and a GPS tether if bond is posted.

"Armed robbery is a violent crime, and the Dearborn Police Department will continue to work with surrounding jurisdictions and utilize all available resources to bring the perpetrators of such crimes to justice," Chief Ronald Haddad said. "The Dearborn Police Department would like to thank the Detroit Police Department for its assistance in this arrest and investigation.”
