Shopping Bags Stolen from Fairlane

Within the past week, there were four reported car thefts, two incidents of swiped purchases from Fairlane shoppers and a firefighter's wallet stolen from his vehicle.

Multiple Cars Stolen

At 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, a resident's 2010 Audi SM was stolen from his garage. The car had been parked there since the night before and the owner of the home, located on the 5100 block of Neckel.

Another vehicle was reported as stolen on Dec. 16 from a parking lot at a trucking business located at 4245 Miller Road. The owner said his F-150 was stolen some time between 2-8 p.m.

A third vehicle theft happened in the parking lot of on Dec. 18. The Oldsmobile was parked in the lot at 10:30 a.m. and was stolen some time before 4 p.m., the owner reported.

On Dec. 20, a fourth vehicle theft happened between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. The owner parked his 2-door Isuzu Rodeo curbside at a friend's house on the 6200 block of Kendal.

There are no suspects in any of the cases, and the thefts are not believed to be related.

Shopping Bags Swiped

Two thefts were reported at within the past week, both involving cases of shopping bags full of merchandise being stolen.

The first theft happened just before 7 p.m. on Dec. 17. The victim reported that she set down her bags–one from and one from , each containing approximately $100 worth of purchases–and turned her back on them for a minute. When she turned around, the bags were gone.

On Dec. 18, another woman reported the theft of her shopping bag after she set it down in front of the jewelry kiosk in front of . The bag contained three pairs of shoes from worth approximately $100.

The had issued a community alert on Dec. 13 warning residents to be aware of their surroundings and use precaution in their homes during the holiday season. "The … department wants to remind its citizens that we need to stay vigilant in our precautions against those who may try to commit crimes against us," the warning read. "This vigilance includes an awareness of those around us while in parking lots, malls and shopping centers, and even around our homes."

Firefighter's ID, Debit Card Stolen

A Dearborn firefighter reported that his wallet was stolen from his 1995 red Ford pickup truck on Dec. 13 between the hours of 12:30-7:30 a.m.

The man reported that he parked his car at his home on the 24300 block of Ross just after midnight. The next morning, he discovered that his car had been broken into and his wallet was. The wallet contained his firefighter badge and identification card, social security card and Firefighters Burn Drive debit card.

The card was reported to have been used multiple times at a local gas station, and the station manager agreed to watch for more purchases on the card.
