Pretrial Hearing Set for Dearborn Officer Involved in Drunk Driving Incident

A pretrial hearing for a Dearborn police officer charged with driving under the influence of alcohol will take place at the 19th District Court on May 23.

Eric Krawczyk, 41, was arraigned on April 25 on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, according to the court clerk's office.

Police reports show Krawczyk was arrested on April 20, after witnesses reported the vehicle he was driving struck at least two other vehicles near Carlysle and Audette streets in Dearborn while he was off duty.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad would not comment on whether Krawczyk has been placed on leave from the department. According to published reports, Krawczyk posted a $200 personal bond and has entered an rehabilitation program at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield.

Haddad said the Dearborn Police Department has to respect the court process; however, he said that the depatrtment is investigating Krawczyk, as well as another officer involved in a seperate off-duty drunken-driving incident in Novi that took place in February.
