Powerhouse Gym Offers Free Memberships to Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies

Deputies and corporals can use any of the gym's locations in Dearborn, Brownstown and Lincoln Park for free.

The men and women of the Wayne County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association have a new place to relax and unwind thanks to a partnership with Powerhouse Gym.

The gym's three locations in Dearborn, Brownstown and Lincoln Park will offer free all-access gym memberships to deputies and corporals effective immediately.

Mike Agemy, director of operations for Powerhouse Gym, responded to a request from WCDSA Vice President Jeremy Cady, who was actively seeking donations of workout equipment for law enforcement personnel.

“Jeremy came to me, explained to me what these men and women are going through and I knew I had to do whatever I could to give back," Agemy said. "I spoke with my management team and together we came up with this idea. The men and women who protect us 24/7 need to be in the best health possible.

"It is understandable for municipalities to have to cut back on funding for some programs due to the economy, but to have nothing for those who we expect to put their life on the line in a moment’s notice is not acceptable."

Cady explained that the fitness equipment officers currently use is "depilated and unsafe."

"We have machines held together with tape. I went to the rest of executive board and made it a priority to do something to help our members," Cady explained. "I explained to Mike what our members were going through and almost immediately he and I began to discuss ways his organization could help."

In addition to free access to the gym, members will also receive free child care and discounts on other services. American Mixed Martial Arts Academy operated by Jeremy Winkle inside the Brownstown location, will offer 50 percent off all classes. A Taste of Serenity Massage Therapy by Lisa Brogan will offer 50 percent off massage sessions.

Deputies and corporals can also take advantage of personal training sessions through A Way of Life Fitness. Coach Brandon Parker will offer his services at a 25 percent discounted rate.

Wayne County deputies must present a recent pay stub, official ID and driver's license when they enroll at any of the three Powerhouse Gym locations.

Cpl. Brian Earle, president of the Wayne County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, said the partnership with Powerhouse Gym is a valuable resource.

"Our officers work in very high stress environments. Physical fitness plays a big role in their day-to-day role. This partnership with Powerhouse is an incredible tool that will greatly benefit our members," Earle said.

Cady said he believes most of the association's 800 members will take advantage of the partnership with Powerhouse.

"This is truly a statement by the community that our members are not forgotten. We cannot thank Mike and Powerhouse Gym’s of Brownstown, Dearborn and Lincoln Park enough," he said.
