Police Find Malnourished Pitbull Tied to Pole Inside Dearborn Home

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Dearborn police officers are investigating an animal cruelty complaint involving a pitbull that occurred over the weekend.

Police were dispatched to a home in the 24000 block of Ross Street on June 9 after neighbors reported strange odors emanating from the home. Upon arrival, police were told that the homeowner moved out a week and a half ago and left behind a dog in the house.

Upon inspecting the home, officers observed numerous flies on the front windows and a foul odor coming from the screen door. Officers entered the home through an open back bedroom window and found a male pitbull chained to a pole in the basement.

The basement floor was covered in the dog's urine and feces, police said.

Officers took the dog to the Dearborn Animal Shelter after questioning neighbors, who said they did not know the renter or the current homeowner.

The case remains under investigation. No further information was available at the time of this post.
