Police Blotter: Thieves Steal Laptop, Smell Good in the Process

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Four bottles of cologne and a laptop computer were stolen from a house on the 5600 block of Calhoun Street on July 22, according to a Dearborn police report. Two TVs also were moved from their places in the house but not stolen.

Dearborn police responded to a call from a 21-year-old resident of the home, who said he noticed objects out of order when he returned at 7 p.m., according to the report. He added that the rest of his family was overseas.

Unknown suspects took a Gateway laptop valued at $1,200 and four bottles of cologne totaling at least $200: True Religion, Ed Hardy, Armani and Nautica.

A 48-inch-screen Panasonic TV and a 32-inch Samsung TV also were moved from their places in the house. But the suspects apparently had a change of heart and left both before making their escape. The first was placed in the center of the living room, while the second was put in the house’s backyard next to a 6-foot-tall fence, the report said.

The fence separates the house from a neighboring Rite Aid store, and responding officers noted in the report that the suspects may have parked a getaway car in the nearby alley while going through the house.

The 21-year-old resident said he won’t know the full extent of the burglary until his family returns and identifies other missing possessions, according to the report.
