Police Blotter: String of Car Thefts in Dearborn

There have been three cars stolen in Dearborn since Thursday. The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 2007 Honda Civic was stolen between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and 8:15 a.m. Friday on Banner Street, a Dearborn resident reported.

The owner, a resident of the 2400 block of Dartmouth Street, said he parked his blue two-door at the curb on Banner for the night. He woke up with his car nowhere to be found and broken glass on the ground. The suspect must have smashed the passenger-side window, he said.

The owner had just purchased the car on June 8, according to the police report.

The owner parked the gray van in front of his home at 9 p.m. Friday, he said. It was gone within two hours and there was no broken glass at the scene, according to the police report.

Multiple boxes of T-shirts and candy, the value of which totaled more than $10,000, were inside the van at the time of its disappearance, he said.

The police report noted that there have been a number of involving work vans in Dearborn's northeast end.

The car thefts continued Sunday morning, as a 1995 Honda Accord was stolen on the 7200 block of Neckel Street, the car's owner said.

The man, a Dearborn resident, parked the tan four-door in front of his cousin's house around 3 a.m. Sunday. He added that the vehicle was locked and no broken glass was at the scene, according to the police report.
