Police Blotter: Another Work Van Stolen in Dearborn

The fifth van-related theft in the past six weeks in Dearborn was reported last week. The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Dearborn’s work van owners just can’t catch a break from thieves. In the latest chapter of their crime story, a white 2003 Ford E-250 panel van was stolen from its owner’s driveway on the 5100 block of Orchard Avenue, according to Dearborn Police reports.

The owner parked the vehicle–filled with construction equipment–in his driveway around 1 a.m. Friday, the report said. By the time he returned to the van at 8:30 a.m., it was gone. The owner added that no one had permission to use the van and that he had its only set of keys, according to the report.

The crime is the latest in a string of van-related crimes in Dearborn during the past six weeks. On May 29, from a work van parked in the back alley on Orchard’s 7600 block. A 2003 Ford Econoline van––was taken from in front of its owner’s house on the 7600 block of Manor Street almost three weeks later.

A similar 2003 Ford Econoline van fell victim to theft in its owner’s S. Morrow Circle driveway on June 23. The vehicle–adorned with logos from the owner’s company, “IB Electric”–.

Finally, a 2000 Ford Panel Van from the Home Depot parking lot on June 26. The van’s owner had only been inside the store for 30 minutes when he discovered the vehicle missing.
