Hundreds of families visited Dearborn Fire Station No. 2 on Saturday.

The Dearborn Fire Department threw open the bays and invited the community inside its station on Oct. 12 as part of the annual Fire Safety Week open house.

The event offered children the chance to operate the fire hose, try on firefighter gear and climb on fire trucks. The Dearborn Police Department and other agencies provided goodie bags and hot dogs at the event.

While many children enjoyed tours of the fire station, by far the most popular attraction was the mock fire house, where participants could use a hose to extinguish fires.
