Identity Thief Steals $8,500 from Dearborn Man's Bank Account

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction

A 53-year-old Dearborn man believes he may be the victim of identity theft, according to police.

The man filed a report with the Dearborn Police Department on Sept. 5, after being contacted by a representative of Chase Bank. The bank informed the resident that an unknown person attempted to open a credit card in his name.

The man placed a "watch" on the card and was later informed by credit bureaus that three other credit card applications were filed under his name.

The man went to the Dearborn Federal Credit Union to report the activity and found that someone had emptied $8,500 from his checking account.

A copy of the police report was forwarded to the credit union's claims department. The case is under investigation.
