Gun Stolen from Bench at Macy's in Dearborn

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 84-year-old Detroit man says his personal handgun was stolen out of a bathroom stall at Macy's inside the Fairlane Town Center on July 15.

According to police reports, the man told Dearborn police officers that he was shopping with his wife and son and sat down in a vestibule to rest. While seated, the man said he placed a black handbag that contained a Taurus BSR Model 4510 handgun on the floor next to the bench.

At around 1:30 p.m., the man left the store and drove home. At approximately 2:15 p.m., he realized that he left the gun and returned to Macy's to retrieve it. After discovering the bag missing, the man called police to report the theft.

Officers obtained a security DVD from the store, which contains a video of a female sitting next to the handbag. The video shows that after the female leaves the bench, the bag is missing.

The case remains under investigation by the Dearborn Police Department.
