Edwin Scott Verdung of Highland Park was sentenced to six months in jail by the Wayne County Circuit Court on May 29.

A former Dearborn resident who pleaded guilty to writing several bad checks was sentenced to six months in jail and fined $10,000.

According to Heritage Media, Edwin Scott Verdung, 26, of Highland Park was sentenced May 29 by Wayne County Circuit Judge Deborah Thomas after pleading guilty to one count of larceny by false pretenses between $1,000 and $20,000. Five similar charges were dismissed May 3 in exchange for the guilty plea.

The newspaper reports that Verdung was credited with 62 days for time he already served in the Wayne County Jail. He also was sentenced to three years’ probation, 120 hours of community service and $1,198 in court costs and fees.

Verdung was charged with three counts of larceny by false pretenses; two counts of writing a check with non-sufficient funds, and one count of writing a check having no account in April, following a month-long investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Verdung was accused of writing bad checks for the purchase of two vehicles and rent for a building in Wayne. He also was accused of writing an $8,000 check with nonsufficient funds for a down payment on a BMW and had a Ford truck that was reported stolen in Minnesota.
