Fairlane Robbery Ends in Death of 1; Another Arrested

A man reportedly shot himself Monday morning after being caught for involvement in an armed robbery at Fairlane Mall. Another man is in custody for the robbery.

One man is in custody and another dead after a robbery Monday morning at the , according to Dearborn police. A third man involved in the incident has not been located.

At 9:15 a.m. Monday, a woman called Dearborn police saying that she had just been robbed by three men outside of a restaurant at the mall. The victim followed the men as they fled via the Southfield Freeway.

Dearborn police located the vehicle and, after a short chase, the  driver of the car crashed it near Joy and Southfield. All three suspects then fled on foot.

One man was apprehended immediately, while the other fired several shots at police before shooting himself. The third man has not yet been apprehended.

No officers were hit in the shooting.

Police did not confirm whether the man who shot himself died; however, early reports this morning from the Press and Guide indicate that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Dearborn police are working with the Detroit police homicide division on the incident, and have asked that anyone with information on the whereabouts of the third suspect call Dearborn Detective Sgt. Tom Lance at 313-943-2292. The man is described as a black male, approximately 35 years old, wearing a black jacket and a white hat.

“This was a very violent crime, where our officers were found to be under great provocation and showed absolute restraint,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement.
