Detroit Resident Charged for Dearborn Bank Robbery

Robert Russell Widner, 25, has been arraigned on charges that he robbed Key Bank in Dearborn on Monday, March 28.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office issued charges on Wednesday against a Detroit man for the earlier this week.

Robert Russell Widner, 25, of Detroit, has been charged with one count each of bank robbery and armed robbery for allegedly holding up the Dearborn branch of Key Bank on Monday.

If convicted, Widner faces up to a life sentence for each charge.

Dearborn Police issued an alert Monday evening looking for a man who allegedly robbed the Key Bank earlier that day.

According to witnesses and surveillance video, the man–now suspected to have been Widner–demanded money at gunpoint from a teller at the bank. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and left in a silver Dodge Neon.

However, witnesses were able to give police the license plate number on the car, which led them to Widner's home in Detroit. After conducting surveillance on the house Monday night, Tuesday morning.

Widner was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon before Judge Richard Wygonik at the in Dearborn. Bond was set at $100,000 cash and a preliminary examination will be held on April 8.
