Detroit Couple Arrested for Stolen Plate, Multiple Warrants in Dearborn

The couple were both arrested on separate charges Dec. 30, at the Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn.

A married couple from Detroit were both arrested on separate charges Dec. 30, at the Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn.

The couple was exiting the Fairlane parking lot in their 2002 Ford Taurus when police conducted a traffic stop around 2:45 p.m. Monday.

Police officers ran the license plate of the Taurus and discovered that the plate matched a different vehicle, which was stolen.

The man, who was driving the car, also admitted to police that he didn't have a driver's license.

Additionally, police found more than $700 worth of retail merchandise in various bags and in the woman's purse while searching the vehicle, all with tags still on.

Both the man and the woman told police that their significant other had purchased the merchandise, though neither had receipts or proof of purchase on them.

It was later revealed after conducting a background check that the female passenger had $1,500 in local warrants for larceny and a $400 misdemeanor warrant for larceny in Allen Park.

The man, 47, was arrested for the stolen plate and for driving without a license, and his wife, also 47, was arrested for the outstanding warrants.

The merchandise was confiscated by police for safe keeping and their vehicle was towed. It is unclear from the report whether the merchandise can be proved as stolen.
