Decorated Police Officer Arraigned on Drunk Driving Charges

Dearborn Police Officer Eric Krawczyk was arrested on April 20 after witnesses say his car struck three other vehicles.

Dearborn Police Officer Eric Krawczyk, 41, was arraigned on Thursday for charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

According to the 19th District Court Clerk's Office, Krawczyk was arraigned in front of Judge Samuel Salamey at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Krawczyk was originally scheduled to appear at the court, however the arraignment hearing was moved to the hospital for an undisclosed reason, the clerk's office said.

Police reports show Krawczyk was arrested on April 20, after witnesses reported the vehicle he was driving struck at least two other vehicles near Carlysle and Audette streets in Dearborn while he was off duty.

A web search reveals that Krawczyk has a longstanding career with the Dearborn Police Department, and was named "Officer of the Year" in 2003 for his work on the DEA task force in Detroit.

In 2008, he received the "Outstanding Service Award" from the Dearborn Exchange Club.

Repeated calls to Dearborn Chief Ronald Haddad have not been returned. It is unknown whether Krawczyk has been put on administrative leave.
