Fordson High School Freshmen Injured in ATV Accident

Two Dearborn residents are listed in critical condition following Tuesday's accident with a Ford Explorer.

Two Dearborn youths sustained critical injuries when their all-terrain vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer near Appoline and Blesser streets on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said a 13-year-old Dearborn boy and a 14-year-old passenger were driving a 2001 Bombardier quad runner ATV north on Appoline Street around 2:23 p.m. The ATV failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the Ford Explorer traveling westbound on Blesser Street. 


The ATV struck the driver’s side of the Explorer resulting in critical injuries. A 20-year-old female driver of the Explorer was not injured. Neither the driver nor the passenger of the ATV were wearing helmets.

The 14-year-old boy was transported to Children’s Hospital and is listed in serious condition. The 13-year-old boy was transported to Oakwood Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call the Dearborn Police Department at 313-943-2241. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can call the Dearborn Police tip line at 313-943-3030.

Police did not release the names of the ATV driver and passenger, however the Dearborn Area Community Members Facebook page identified the youths as Ali Hammoud and Mehdi Hassan. Both men attend Fordson High School as freshmen.

Dearborn Police Chief Haddad said the accident is "a tragedy" and that residents should be reminded about the dangers of operating non-street legal vehicles on the roadway regardless of age.
