Dearborn Store Employees Catch, Detain Escaping Shoplifter

A 22-year-old man attempted to steal two bottles of liquor from The House of Beverage in Dearborn.

A 22-year-old man was arrested around 10:45 p.m. Christmas Eve for attempting to steal two liquor bottles from The House of Beverage, 23900 Cherry Hill.

The two employees at the store were able to detain the man until police arrived by holding him up against a wall, the report said.

According to the employees, the man concealed two bottles of liquor worth a total of $60 in his waistband and attempted to pass by the cash registers to walk out of the store.

When the employees tried to stop him, he flailed and thrashed his arms to get away but was eventually restrained.

Several bottles on the counter were broken during the struggle and one of the employees was cut on his hand.

Surveillance video showed that no assault occurred during the struggle. The man was arrested by Dearborn Police for Larceny, and his bond was set at $500.
