As the nation honors the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks this Tuesday, the is also urging residents to "be especially vigilant" in recognizing and reporting suspicious activity in the community.
Police Chief Ronald Haddad noted in a statement sent out on the Nixle alert system Monday that "no specific threats have been made to our city."
"This is only a precautionary message," he added.
Nonetheless, police advise that residents should be alert and aware in public places, including the following:
- Shopping centers
- Mosques and other houses of worship
- community centers
- Business districts, including Michigan Avenue and Warren Avenue
